Moe - Yallourn Rail Trail
The Moe to Yallourn Rail Trail follows the route of the former railway line that serviced the Yallourn Power Station. The railway was built during the 1950's to replace the original branch line, which joined the main line between Morwell and Moe. The new branch line closed in 1986 as all briquettes are now made at Morwell.
The trail traverses open countryside and bushy areas and features views of Lake Narracan, the Haunted Hills and Yallourn West Power Station. Starting from Bennett Street the trail passes the Moe Botanic Gardens and crosses Narracan Creek. Both have access ramps from the trail. After crossing the creek flats the route passes Newborough, with a small shopping centre close to the trail. A detour at Sullivans Track to Lake Narracan is well worthwhile, especially for a picnic or BBQ lunch and perhaps some sightseeing or maybe a swim. The trail finishes at John Field Drive near the Yallourn Power Station.

Start in the Moe Botanical Gardens and follow the old rail branch line to the Yallourn power station. This relatively flat and easy to ride trail passes through farmland and bush, and enjoys views of the Haunted Hills and Lake Narracan, where you can stop for a walk or swim.

Grade: No experience required, suitable for beginners and children. This is a mostly flat and straight trail, and very family friendly.

Getting there: Travel via Monash Freeway (M1) and Princes Highway (A1) to the Moe turn off approximately 130km east of Melbourne. Parking is available at the Moe railway station on Lloyd Street, or at the Moe Botanical Gardens on Narracan Drive. It is a short cycle to the beginning of the trail from both locations.
