Minyip Heritage Walk

Minyip can be translated as 'ashes' in aboriginal terms. The district began as squatters' runs in the 1840's until grain farmers selected 320 acre blocks from 1872. In 1875 the township of Minyip was surveyed and was originally in the Shire of Dunmunkle but is now part of the Yarriambiack Shire. The town has serviced the farming community and has a population of approximately 500.

The Minyip Heritage Plaques endeavour to record the business, cultural, spiritual, health and educational heritage of our town. Minyip Historical Society members have compiled information from their research centre and from material supplied by the community.
