Mildura - Australian Inland Botanic Gardens

Mildura - Australian Inland Botanic Gardens

Just over the Murray river from Mildura, the Australian Inland Botanic Gardens are unique among Australian Botanic Gardens in displaying plants from around the world by their continent, country or region of origin. The Australian sections are organised by state, and features species from the vast dry interior of the continent.

Vistors can find plenty to enjoy from a wander through the gardens to a browse through our 19th century outback station buildings, and sip coffee or a cold drink under the mallee trees.

Dont forget to have a coffee/cold drink, light lunch at Garnpang Homestead (info centre) before seeing the Bush chapel and Rose Garden.

Opening Hours:

8am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday; 10am to 4:30pm Saturday and Sunday
Closed Christmas Day and Good Friday

Cost:

A tractor train tour sometimes occurs. The cost was $8 per adult when we visited and children under 12 years are free when accompanied by an adult

Review:

It's great that the Gardens are free which must help to attract visitors. There are some nice walks if the weather is not too hot although the shape and colours of the various trees are not too striking or distinctive. The Ornamental Lake needs more, well, ornamentation to become a nice place to rest.

Don't miss the hut with the seed pod ceiling which is lovely and the bush chapel is unusual. The cafe was very hit and miss in terms of what was available from the menu. Even though the cafe was staffed by lovely volunteers, the stock control processes seemed to be lacking. The Nature Walk which is about 400m in length is interesting.
