Merryls Mosaics (Caulfield South)

Merryl's Mosaics now offers three types of glass art activities: mosaic, bead mosaic (for little kids) and glass fusing. For a fun and creative experience, come along and make a mosaic or fused glass piece. We offer School Holiday Sessions, Casual Mosaic Weekend Sessions, Parent and Child Sessions, and Term Mosaic Lessons.

School Holiday Sessions
We run Holiday Programs during all the Term Breaks. We now offer 3 activities:

Mosaic for 6/7 years plus
We have a large range of mosaic cut-out designs - like dogs, hearts, rainbows, peace sign and many more. Children will choose a template, choose their tiles, learn how to cut the tiles, mosaic and grout their piece. If children are attending just one session, they typically have enough time to complete their mosaic and take it home at the end of the session. Cost is $39 per session.
Bead Mosaics for 4 - 6 years
A Bead Mosaic is similar to a mosaic, but instead of using glass tiles, children use coloured plastic beads. They also choose their template, choose their beads, and stick them onto their template in a design of their choice. A fun, creative and safe activity for little kids. The activity takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes and costs $23.
Fused Glass for 10 years plus
Usually a more complex and expensive glass art, we have come up with a design technique that is simple, fun and affordable and produces beautiful results. This 2.5 hour activity brings a typically high end art craft to the public. Fusing glass is when you take a base piece of glass, put a glass design of your choice on it, and then fire the 2 layers of glass into one piece. The firing takes place in a kiln which is like an oven for glass. Much like an oven, you set the kiln at different temperatures and get different outcomes. For example, the glass can be fired smooth, or textured. You can also choose to full fuse your piece into a flat piece, or slump the glass into a dish. The slumping process takes 2 firings, and costs $6 more. You can choose what you want to make. Glass fusing is an amazing and beautiful process. You will love it and be delighted with the results.
It is creative, fun and relaxing. Come and give it a go! Cost is $39 per session plus $6 for second firing (if required).

Children can attend single or multiple sessions. If they are booked into a morning and afternoon session, they are welcome to stay over the mid-day break if they bring lunch with them. I have a beautiful courtyard where they can eat and relax in-between sessions - and those very dedicated can work through the break if they wish.

A timetable will be posted on my website a few weeks prior to the holiday period. Sessions run for 2.5 hours, from 10am-12.30pm and from 1.30pm-4.00pm. The cost is all inclusive of product, materials and GST. A discount applies for multiple sessions, as well as for siblings.

I take kids from 8 years and older for mosaic, 10 years and older for glass fusing and from 4 years for a bead mosaic if accompanied by an adult or older sibling who can help them.

Casual Weekend Sessions
I also have Casual Sessions when kids can book in and attend on Saturdays from 10am - 4.30pm and Sundays from 10 - 4.30pm provided there is no party on at the time. Sunday mornings are always available form 10 - 12.30pm. These sessions are run like holiday programs and cost the same.

Parent and Child Sessions
Children under 8 years old are very capable of creating a beautiful mosaic but need hands-on assistance. If they are accompanied by an adult they can attend any Holiday Program or casual sessions. Many moms, grannies, aunties etc. accompany children and it is a lovely way to spend time together. The adult in attendance doesn't need any experience to help making mosaics and is not charged. If the adult chooses to make their own mosaic then the combined fee is $75 for the session.

Term Mosaic Lessons
For children who wish to learn to mosaic - acquiring skills and techniques beyond what they will learn in casual sessions and which enable them to produce beautiful pieces - we offer Kids Mosaic Lessons during the term. We work together to choose a suitable mosaic project, and children come weekly and work on their piece until complete. Then we choose another project. With our guidance children make beautiful pieces of work as we ensure they choose pieces that are within their capability, and we give them the skills to make the piece themselves. Session times are Tuesday, Thursday 5.15pm - 6.45 pm

Cost is $27.50 per participant per session (includes GST). Payment required upfront for the term. Children can join anytime and will just pay for the period of the term that they are attending.
