Megasaurus Playground, Newington Drive, Cranbourne East
Welcome to Melbourne's version of Jurassic Park, the Megasaurus Playground. The playground features strikingly designed play equipment which is sure to appeal to children's fascination with dinosaurs.
The main elements include a flying fox with disk seat covered by a huge 25m long 'brontosaurus' dinosaur frame, a 20m long dinosaur climbing frame incorporating climbing nets and a slide, a "pterodactyl" basket swing with lovely steel feathers which form a cubby house and climbing plates of a stegosaurus which have climbing holds that make a variety of noises.
There are a number of natural elements including a dry creek bed with rocks, logs, stones and bushes plus logs and rocks to hop across. Search for three dinosaur eggs hidden amongst the rocks.
There are paths throughout the playground and soft paths lead to all the equipment, although there are some steps leading up to the flying fox. The flying fox gives a reasonably fast ride but nothing comparable to coming face to face with a pterodactyl.
There is a shelter with three tables, BBQ, water tap, unshaded seats and a big grassy area beside the playground. There are no toilets.
The playground is located in a new housing area (Livingston Estate) and the address may not be on maps and GPS devices (location is -38.116701, 145.295747 on Google maps). It is off the Berwick - Cranbourne Road near Casey Recreation & Aquatic Centre (RACE) and Casey Fields playground.
The playground is spectacular but the amount of play equipment is limited. Maybe combine a visit to the playground with a visit to Casey RACE or the fantastic Casey Fields playground.
