Marysville - Phantom Falls

Marysville - Phantom Falls

A smaller cascade style waterfall that is very picturesque and located in the Keppel Falls Scenic Reserve. Only a small section of the larger 35m drop is visible due to the profusion of tree ferns and vegetation in the gully where the creek flows.

The 400m uphill path to the falls meanders through beautiful lush Victorian bush with plenty of tree ferns and passes over two lovely bridges. There are about 115 steps on the path and the waterfall has a viewing platform and seat which allows the visitor to take a break while appreciating the Falls.

The information sign at the falls reads "Once hidden away by dense forest in a narrow gully of the Mystic Mountains, the cool crystal waters of Phantom Falls Creek surge down exposed ancient rock creating a striking waterfall. It is likely that initially the falls could be heard but not seen. Perhaps they may have appeared like an apparition, a remarkable and unexpected cascade of water seeming to emerge from nowhere. Over time, as Mountain-Ash and soft tree ferns regenerate, the falls will once again be hidden away by the forest."

While the waterfall is lovely at any time of the year, the most rewarding time to visit is after a heavy rain. Spring is also a good time to visit the Falls as the melting snow can contribute significantly to the flow.

The Falls is located 8.4 km from Marysville along Lady Talbot Drive which is a non-paved road which is kept in good condition. From the car park the walk to Phantom Falls is just over 800m return.
