Livvi's Place Casey Playground, Boland Drive, Lyndhurst
I'm a huge fan of the work done by the Olivia Foundation to create all abilities play spaces. The fenced playground area has excellent all-abilities access with wide paths and ramps.
There are two flying foxes with harness seats, a big stand-on carousel which needs the strength of Dad to spin it around, two birds nest swings, three standard swings and another swing with harness.
In the corner covered in shade sails there is a steep soft hill with a very wide metal slide, a colour and shape panel and a pipe musical instrument. At the base of the hill are some soft mounds to jump between. From the top of the slide hill is a fireman's pole and climbing wall which leads to a very large sandpit which has a rope net climbing wall and wooden climbing wall in the middle. On an edge of the sandpit is a metal sand play tray. There are areas of natural play with rocks and logs in sand.
A second stage has now been completed which includes musical instruments (conga drums and tubular bells) and a water play area. There are water spray jets which come out of the ground and another area with a handpump where water flows through channels with sluice gates. There is also another water tap with water flowing along small channels cut into a block of wood before flowing into the larger channels. There are wooden planks over the channels to practice balancing.
Much of the playground is covered by shade sails.
There is also a big grassy play area, shelter with two tables, unshaded BBQs, water tap, unshaded seats and toilets. There is an outdoor gym outside the fenced area.
A disappointing aspect of this playground is that play equipment is often broken.
