Mahoneys Reserve Fenced Dog Off Leash Area (Forest Hill)
Bob Saker oval is a fully fenced oval within the extensive Mahoneys Reserve where dogs are allowed off leash. The surface was quite sandy when we were there.
The oval has lockable gates and is used for football and cricket. This means that the oval is typically not accessible on Saturday and Sundays due to sport.
Generally you will find some dogs there, especially between 8am and 9:30am on weekdays.
Beside the oval there are grassy areas dotted with trees and an additional large, unfenced grassy area.
There is a water tap for people and dogs at the coroner of the building beside the oval.
There is a lot of parking available including Kira Court, Vicki Street and Lee Ann Street.
There is a basic playground on the north side of the reserve. Dogs must be on leash within 2.5m of a children's playground.
The location is within the City of Whitehorse and the regulations relating to dogs are:
In all public areas, including off lead areas, dogs must be on a lead within 2.5m of any children's playground, permanent barbeque or picnic area or organised public meeting.
During any organised sporting event, dogs are NOT permitted to enter any sports ground, field, court or similar or to be within 2.5m of the perimeter of the event.
Owners must carry litter bags and remove their dog's droppings.
Dogs may be off lead within the council's designated off lead reserves provided:
- The owner has the dog under effective control by hand or voice
- The dog does not threaten or cause nuisance to any person or animal
- The dog is within 25m of the owner at all times
- The owner carries a lead
