There are a number of world class mountain bike parks across Victoria. Whatever your skill level or preferred discipline - downhill, all mountain or cross country, there is a great mountain bike park or area of trails to challenge you. You can even test yourself on the mountain bike course used for the 2006 Commonwealth Games at Lysterfield Park in Melbourne. We have created a list of the 35 best mountain biking areas in Victoria. Arthurs Seat Mountain Bike Trails (Arthurs Seat / Red Hill)
Summary: A good range of trail types which suit a range of experience levels.
Disciplines: Cross Country, All Mountain, Downhill
Difficulty: Green x4, blue x5, black x5
Facilities: Located at Arthurs Seat/Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula, 85km from central Melbourne.
Lysterfield Park Mountain Bike Trails (Narre Warren North)
Summary: 24km of purpose-built mountain bike trails suitable for all skill levels. Among them is the 2006 Commonwealth Games course, a skills park and a jumps area.

Facilities: Located in the south east, 43km from central Melbourne.
Quarry Park Mountain Bike Trails (Footscray)
Summary: A park with some trails, skills park and pump track.
Disciplines: Downhill, All Mountain, Skills PArk, Pump Track
Difficulty: Green x2, blue x2
Facilities: Located 8km west of central Melbourne.
Plenty Gorge Mountain Bike Trails (Plenty)
Summary: 25km of singletrack in the Plenty Gorge area with fairly ill-defined trails.
Disciplines: Cross Country, All Mountain
Difficulty: Green x25, blue x 54, black x15, double black x6
Facilities: Plenty Gorge is located in the north east, 28km from central Melbourne.
Bowden Spur Mountain Bike Area (Kinglake Central)
Summary: An exhilarating MTB experience on a trail which descends 233m along a 2km stretch of the spur.
Disciplines: Downhill
Difficulty: Double Black x1
Facilities: Located at Kinglake Central which is is 58km north east of central Melbourne. It is possible to shuttle along the road by car.
Smiths Gully Mountain Bike Trails (Smiths Gully)
Summary: A vast network of single track trails and loop rides. Mainly cross country with some all mountain tracks in a terrain of very steep hills.
Disciplines: Cross Country, All Mountain
Difficulty: Green x3, blue x12, black x1
Facilities: The northern end of the trails is only 200m from Smiths Gully General Store which is a good place to park your car. Smiths Gully is 42km north east of central Melbourne.
You Yangs Mountain Bike Park (Little River)
Summary: You Yangs Regional Park has over 50km of trails over two mountain biking areas. The Kurrajong Plantation area has 20km of trails and consists of three loop tracks through established eucalypt plantations. The The more testing Stockyards Area in the north of the park has a range of flowing single trails and steep technical sections through rocky landscapes.

Facilities: Located 25km north east of Geelong and 30km west of Werribee.
The Hill Mountain Bike Park (Newtown, Geelong)
Summary: A four hectare park which which caters for all riders of any age. It features three loops, three skills tracks, dirt jumps and three pump tracks.

Difficulty: Green x4, blue x7
Facilities: Located in Newtown, 4.5km from the Geelong Waterfront.

Walmer State Forest Mountain Bike Trails (Barkers Creek)
Summary: 60km of fast flowing single trail in an open woodland forest with an occasional technical feature.

Difficulty: Green x 1, blue x 3 (main loops)
Facilities: Located 4km from Castlemaine.
Black Hill Mountain Bike Park (Black Hill)
Summary: The park which can be shuttled has some difficult downhill trails and some longer intermediate cross country trails.

Difficulty: Green x1, blue x2, black x2, double black x4
Facilities: Black Hill is a northern suburb of Ballarat.
Wombat State Forest Mountain Bike Trails (Woodend)
Summary: 17km of well signposted and well maintained trails with nice flow.

Difficulty: Blue
Facilities: Located in the Wombat State Forest, 9km south of Woodend.

Buxton Mountain Bike Park (Buxton)
Summary: 23km of purpose built single track with gentle climbs and fast flowing descents.
Disciplines: Cross Country
Difficulty: Green x 1, blue x 6, black x2
Facilities: Located in the Black Range State forest, 2km from Buxton. All trails are closed during the wetter months each year from the Tuesday after Queens Birthday weekend in June and re-open at the beginning of the September / October school holidays.
La Larr Ba Gauwa Mountain Bike Park (Harcourt North)
Summary: A new world class park with 34km of bike trails with stunning views and unique rock features.

Difficulty: Green x 1, blue x 7, black x3
Facilities: La Larr Ba Gauwa Park is located two kilometres east of Harcourt. Car parking for the park is in the Harcourt township.
Mount Tarrengower Mountain Bike Trails (Maldon)
Summary: Mount Tarrengower is 570 meters above sea level and has a few challenging downhill gravity riding trails.

Difficulty: Blue x 2, black x1, double black x 1
Facilities: Located only 2.5km from the centre of Maldon, 40km from Bendigo. This place is also called Maldon MTB. Regular shuttle ride days are held.
Lake Mountain Mountain Bike Trails (Marysville)
Summary: 20km of single track plus 30km of easy level ski trails. There is a classic 28km between Lake Mountain and Marysville (with shuttle available).

Difficulty: Blue x 5, black x1
Facilities: Located around the Lake Mountain resort village where mountain bike hire is available. A shuttle operates between Lake Mountain and Marysville. The trails are closed during the winter season.

Mount Major Mountain Bike Park (Dookie)
Summary: A small number of routes.
Disciplines: Cross Country, Downhill, All Mountain, Four Cross

Facilities: Located 30km east of Shepparton.
Redesdale Mountain Bike Park (Redesdale)
Summary: 16km of trails which are typically 1.5-3km long.
Disciplines: Cross Country
Difficulty: Green x3, blue x3
Facilities: Located at Mount Lofty Bushland Reserve, 48km from Bendigo.

Beechworth Mountain Bike Park (Beechworth)
Summary: 10km of trails in a compact area with varied terrain.
Disciplines: Cross Country, Downhill, All Mountain, Dirt Jump
Difficulty: Green x1, blue x6, black x3
Facilities: Located on the outskirts of Beechworth. There is a smallish jumps track.
Mystic Mountain Bike Park (Bright)
Summary: 50km of trails within a pine plantation which includes many trails and a number of loops around 10km long.
Disciplines: Cross Country, Downhill, All Mountain
Difficulty: Green x8, blue x48, black x21, double black x6
Facilities: Located on the outskirts of Bright. All private vehicles entering the park require a ticket ($25-50 single trip, $77-132 all day). Shuttle service on peak days ($70 day pass).
Dinner Plain Mountain Bike Park (Dinner Plain)
Summary: The easier green trails are shared with walkers while the intermediate blue trails are dedicated to riders. Most trails are 1-2km long but there are a few longer trails.

Facilities: Located around Dinner Plain village. Mountain Bike guided rides and bike rental shop in the village.
Falls Creek Mountain Bike Park (Falls Creek)
Summary: 42km of trails which is mostly cross country with a lot of flow.
Disciplines: Cross Country, Downhill, All Mountain
Difficulty: Green x8, blue x11, black x4
Facilities: Located around Falls Creek village. Bike rental shop, shuttle services during the season.
Rifle Butts Mountain Bike Park (Mansfield)
Summary: There are about eight different trails in the park which link together (total length of trails is 8km)
Disciplines: Cross Country
Difficulty: Green x2, blue x4, black x2
Facilities: Located 4km from the centre of Mansfield.
Big Hill Mountain Bike Park (Mount Beauty)
Summary: An iconic mountain bike location with a wide range of trails (more than 40km) from beginner to world class cross country and downhill trails.

Difficulty: Green x8, blue x 38, black x20, double black x6
Facilities: Located at the edge of Mount Beauty township.
Mt Buller Mountain Bike Park (Mt Buller)
Summary: Over 100 kilometres of trails across all levels of type and ability with some iconic trails.

Difficulty: Downhill - green x1, blue x 3, black x1. Cross Country - green x3, blue x 13, black x1
Facilities: Located around the Mt Buller village. Bike rental shop, shuttle services during the season.
Yackandandah Mountain Bike Track Network (Stanley)
Summary: Network of well mapped, long-form cross-country mountain bike trails highlighting the mining heritage of the local area. Some of the main trails are 15-18km long.

Facilities: Located 4.4 km from Yackandandah township
Eildon Mountain Bike Park (Eildon)
Summary: An easier 3km loop has been created within the original challenging trails.

Hunchback Mountain Bike Park (West Wodonga)
Summary: Mainly blue trails.

Anglesea Mountain Bike Park (Anglesea)
Summary: 400m long mountain cross track with mounds, rollers, jumps and table tops varying in height from 20cm to 1.8m high.
Disciplines: Four Cross, Dirt Jumps, Skills Park
Difficulty: Green, blue
Facilities: There is a picnic area, toilet and shelter on site. The park is located within the town of Anglesea.
Forrest Mountain Bike Trails (Forrest)
Summary: A network of over 50km of cross-country mountain bike trails in the picturesque Otway Ranges.
Disciplines: Cross Country
Difficulty: Green x3, blue x8, black x4
Facilities: The trails are located around the small town of Forrest.
Mt Clay Mountain Bike Trail (Narrawong)
Summary: 7.9km easy grade cross-country trail suitable for any experience level.

Facilities: There is a picnic area at the start of the trail. Located 20km from Portland.
Thunder Point Mountain Bike Track (Warrnambool)
Summary: A 6km tight and twisty loop of singletrack

Facilities: Located on the outskirts of Warrnambool.
Ararat Hills McDonalds Park Mountain Bike Park (Ararat)
Summary: 33 trails over a total distance of 49km
Disciplines: Cross Country
Difficulty: Green, blue (mostly) and black
Facilities: Located in the Ararat Hills Regional Park.

Mt Baw Baw Mountain Bike Tracks (Baw Baw Village)
Summary: 1.4km of downhill track and some cross country tracks.

Erica Mountain Bike Park (Erica)
Summary: 30km of cross country trails and a 3km dedicated all-mountain trail.
Disciplines: Cross Country, All Mountain
Difficulty: Green (although Walhalla Rail Trail and the Tyers Junction Rail Trail are not part of the Erica MTB Park, they form 30km of green level trails for beginners and families), blue (17km cross country in Mill Park area), black (13km cross country in Collins Siding area and 3km all-mountain).
Foster Mountain Bike Trails (Foster)
Summary: 7km mountain bike trail loop
Disciplines: Cross Country
Difficulty: Blue (2x including main trail), black (2x smaller trails)
Facilities: Located within the town of Foster.
Blores Hill Mountain Bike Park (Glenmaggie)
Summary: 13 different trails and 25km of cross country track
Disciplines: Cross Country
Difficulty: Green (4x), blue (8x), black (1x)
Facilities: Located 5km from Heyfield.
Traralgon Pines Mountain Bike Trails (Maryvale)
Summary: 22km of cross country trails through an area of pine trees.

Haunted Hills Mountain Bike Park (Yallourn)
Summary: 13km of progressive trails catering for beginners through to level gnarly. There's an asphalt pump track and a kids trail also.

Colquhoun Mountain Bike Park (Kalimna West)
Summary: Most cross country trails are 1-2 km long and there are 7km and 15.5km loops.

Difficulty: Green (1x), blue (11x)
Facilities: Located 5km from Swan Reach on the Princes Highway where there is a general store and 12km from Lakes Entrance.
Mount Taylor Mountain Bike Park (Mount Taylor)
Summary: All trails are at least blue intermediate level. There is a 2.3km double black diamond downhill, 3.95km all mountain track and blue cross country trails.

Facilities: Picnic facilities are available at Mount Taylor Picnic Area including tables, bench seats, barbeques, a fire pit and a toilet.
Nowa Nowa Mountain Bike Park (Nowa Nowa)
Summary: There are 35km of trails, 20km of mountain bike trails and 15km of dual purpose tracks for walking and cycling. The park is family friendly for children above 6 years of age.

Omeo Mountain Bike Park (Omeo)
Summary: A pump track and skills course.
