Leapfrog Park Playground, Parkwood Terrace, Point Cook
If the frog facts displayed at Leapfrog Park are to be believed, this is a place where kids can safely play without any fear of getting warts.
A huge frog shaped shelter with a seat and fun facts about frogs, the Growling Grass Frog in particular, on the walls is the highlight of this playground which is best suited to younger kids.
Soft paths lead to all the play equipment which includes a hillock with climbing holds and two small wave slides on the sides, small birds nest swing, small set of standard swings, in-ground trampolines, line of tadpole steps along the ground, a trail of log and stump stepping stones, big hollow logs to crawl through, three springers and a structure with rope traverses. There are some interesting poles with patterns and textures carved into them representing different animals.
There is also a cute long jump where you can see if you can jump like a frog. My guess is that you won't be able to - have you seen the size of a frog's thighs!
There is a shelter with a table and seat but no water tap and grassy areas beside the playground are bordered by roads.
This playground is the located in the new Life Estate, which is located on the west side of Point Cook Road (opposite Saltwater Promenade).
Learning all those fun frog facts could be exhausting and we have some preparation material below before a visit to the playground. Frog facts:
- Frogs can lay 4,500 eggs in one day. That's a lot of baby tadpoles!
- Frogs will eat almost anything that will fit into their mouths. Worms, fish, even mice!
- Frogs can turn their eyes in almost any direction. Up, down and sideways.
- Do frogs have teeth? Growling Grass Frogs do ... sharp teeth to munch their prey!
- Frogs must live near water to keep their skin wet, if their skin dries out they will die.
- Do frogs drink water? No, they absorb is through their skin.
- Know what frogs and bears have in common? They both sleep all through winter. This is called hibernation.
- Frogs never close their eyes, even when they sleep.
- Baby frogs are called tadpoles. Tadpoles turn into froglets. Their tails shrink and legs begin to grow.
- What is a group of frogs called - an army.
- Frogs don't give you warts! That's just a myth.
