Leap into Dance (Airport West)
Leap into Dance is an evidence based social and community participation program, offering supported dance and yoga class for children to adults with disabilities in Airport West. This program is provided by a team of passionate dance and disability professionals.
Leap into Dance has created a program that is individualised to every participant in small groups classes, with a focus on creativity, building friendships and dance skills, all while working towards their NDIS goals. Our classes are devised by age group and level of support needs. NDIS or private funded optional available.
With our approach to dance, accessibility and goals, our participants see:
- Increase in strength, flexibility, balance and motor coordination
- Further development in social skills and building friendships
- Increase in confidence and memory
- Development in skills to stay focused and participate in a group
- Building of self-regulation
- Enjoyment and fun while working towards NDIS goals
- A safe creative outlet
Classes start from age 6 through to adults who have additional support needs. Support needs may be a result of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Cerebral Palsy, physical disabilities, learning support needs and behaviour concerns.
In a typical class we use a mixture of class rooms aids such as visual schedules, dance tools and props. Each class is a mixture of learning dance choreographies, creating dances together, being creative and expressive with free-movement and working on dance skills such as strength, balance and co-ordination. Music in our contemporary-jazz classes is pop music, usually suggested from our participants.
Note: Leap into Dance was formerly 'Creative Learning Centre'.
