LB Davern Reserve History

The Reserve as we see it today is the result of past land use. From 1880 to 1890 a horse-drawn tramway ran through the reserve up to Mt Disappointment forest where logging camps were serviced. All physical recognition of this era has disappeared over time with the exception of the walking track which lies where the tramway track once existed.

The closure of sawmills in State Forests during the early 1900s saw the Reserve's future as we know it take another turn. Following the tramway's closure, the area became a popular local meeting point to play sport. It was only a matter of time until the Reserve was officially declared a recreation reserve in 1933.

In more recent times the Reserve has expanded on this vision with the development of recreational facilities and environmental conservation.
