Koolunga Native Reserve (Ferntree Gully)

Koolunga Native Reserve (Ferntree Gully)

Koolunga Native Reserve is a 15 acre reserve, with a variety of native flora and fauna. There are two kilometres of walking tracks throughout the reserve. There is a creek running through it with two bridges as well as some good open space areas big enough to fly a kite or kick a footy. The reserve is well used by dog walkers.

Koolunga Native Reserve is located on the foothills at the base of the Dandenong Ranges and the flora reflects that of the Ranges and also that of the surrounding lowlands. The area has previously been used as a daffodil farm and daffodils still appear each year.

There is parking and a picnic table, but no BBQ or public toilets.

Review:

A lovely little oasis in Ferntree Gully. Near the car park in Old Forest Road is a smallish grassy area with partially shaded table. This links via a bushland area to some grassy areas with beautiful wild flowers in large clumps (we went in October). As well as bushland there is a large grassy area with a line of cypress trees and some seats. There are information boards throughout the reserve. You need to keep to the tracks due to re-vegetation programs. Overall a pleasant place to explore for half an hour, especially in springtime when the wildflowers are out.
