Kaniva Sheep Art

Kaniva Sheep Art

Kaniva Sheep Art is a community arts project which celebrates the town's sheep history with a flock of painted sheep (much in the way in which Shepparton has painted cows). A special mould was made to create a smooth fibre glass sheep that could be painted as a canvas based on the Texcel breed by The Sheep Bloke. All of the sheep have been painted by local Kaniva artists and community groups, aged between 8 to 80. The Sheep Art Trail has been entirely created and funded by the community.

The Sheep Art Trail also features murals, interactive games, tours and a wool stencil wall, recording over 100 wool stencils.

Painted sheep can be found up and around the main street and hidden on each one is a tiny windmill. The Sheep Art Trail spans 900 metres from the Big Windmill connecting the Silo Art to the Wetlands and Fauna Park.

Each sheep has its own name and QR Code, Scan the code to discover the stories, places or community group through your phone. A tiny windmill has been hidden on each sheep.

The trail includes a variety of digital interactive tours and games that can be played on phones. Choose from Art Trail, Heritage Walk, Sheepish Fun Trail, Wetlands & Fauna Park and more. Simply Search the App store and download the Actionbound App (advert free). Click bounds nearby or search Kaniva. Choose your amazing race or tour and let's go!

As well as the main trail, other sheep can also be found dotted around the town and altogether there are presently 52 sheep, 4 lambs and 2 sheep dogs.

Note: They are not designed to be sat on, so please help to look after our flock!
