Jindivick - Laurie Collins Sculpture Garden
Set in rolling green hills discover an acre of recycled metal sculptures including a mosaicked Mercedes and a 3-D Blue Poles.
The sculpture garden contains the work of metal sculptor Laurie Collins and also a big pile of scrap metal which is a source of many of Laurie's creations. A gallery is also being developed at the site to show Laurie's smaller works as well as other people's art.
The sculpture garden is on the main Jindivick Rd about 1.5 km away from Jindivick.
Review:
A really interesting set of metal sculptures are arranged throughout the garden of the sculpture, Laurie Collins. It is very helpful that there is a description and explanation of the thought processes which went into creating each sculpture. The sculptures are often quite intricate and often have small metal human figures.
Even though all the sculptures were for sale (prices were marked and generally in the $300 - $800 range) we were welcome to explore the garden even though we didn't have a real intention of buying a sculpture. If you do want to take a sculpture home there are smaller pieces like flowers, ducks, birds and dogs which are in the $10 - $50 price range. There is a shed with paintings and smaller more intricate metal sculptures for sale (around $150).
The veranda of this shed has a shaded table and a few seats scattered about. There are even a few swing sets for the kids to play on if Mum and Dad want to spend more time than the kids looking at the sculptures.
When you first arrive you may be confronted with a couple of excitable dogs which can be scary for the kids but the dogs are very friendly. Our kids spent at least as much time with the dogs as they did with the sculptures.
There is a huge pile of metal of different shapes and forms which should provide plenty of raw material for future creations.
Laurie is passionate about the area and even offers free brochures such as "More than 10 things to do around Jindivick", "More than 10 Things to do around Drouin", "More than 10 things to do around Warragul" and "more than 10 things to do around Noojee".
