Harleston Park Playground, Allison Road, Elsternwick
A wonderful playground where one fun area merges into the next. Harleston Park has always had a signature slide and after the latest upgrade, this big steep metal slide from the top of a mound doesn't disappoint. To get to the slide requires a scramble up a rope ladder. On a side of the mound is a wide metal slide, stepper logs leading from the bottom to the top, rock steps, steps carved into the soft fall mound and a scrambling rope.
The next area has a structure with thick rope bridge between two towers. The towers have a metal slide, rope ladder, climbing wall, little cubby, rope net climbing wall and sloping parallel bars.
For younger kids there is a large sandpit surrounded by stepper logs with a lovely wooden play structure in the middle of the sandpit which has sand play equipment and a small slide.
There is a spinning carousel where kids can either sit or stand, beautiful wooden bug springer, an equally beautiful bug see-saw, frame with five swings where everyone can swing into the centre, lovely percussion music area, carved totem poles, speak and listen system and a huge acorn cubby.
Running along one side is a water play area where water bubbles out of a rock and runs down along a creek bed for about 20m before disappearing down a drain.
There are two shelters with tables and BBQs (which are sometimes booked), six unshaded tables, water tap, toilets, basketball court, some grassy areas, seats under shady trees and paths connecting the play areas.
A grassy area next to the playground is a dog off leash area from 6am to 9am. There is a car parking area along the northern side.
Access for Dogs:
- The outer area of Harleston Park, external to the playground and picnic shelters, is off-leash between 6am and 9am.
- Dogs must be on-leash at all other times within the park.
