Hamilton - Lake Hamilton

Hamilton - Lake Hamilton

Lake Hamilton is an attractive landscaped man-made lake located at the eastern end of Hamilton which is surrounded by 25 hectares of parkland. The lake was created in 1977 by forming of a clay embankment across Grange Burn.

The lake is used for various water-based activities including fishing, waterskiing, sailing, rowing, windsurfing, canoeing and swimming. Facilities include a boat ramp, toilets and shower facilities located off the Mill Road entry.

The Lakes Edge Adventure playground, Hamilton skatepark, dog park and excellent walking/bike track provide opportunities for families to enjoy the outdoor surrounds of the lake.

There are 10 kilometres of shared trail around the lake and along the Grange Burn, perfect for running, walking or bike riding and a great way to experience the beauty of Lake Hamilton. The regularly maintained track winds its way around the whole of the lake and extends along the Grange Burn. Track markers are located every 500m commencing at the Hamilton Spillway entry point for training enthusiasts combined with eight outdoor resistance training stations spaced in key positions around the lake track.

You can also participate in the Hamilton Parkrun, which is a weekly 5km run around the lake free for anyone to participate.

Note that camping is not permitted around Lake Hamilton.
