Halls Gap - Chatauqua Peak Walk

Chatauqua Peak walk is a 5.6km circuit loop which takes most people between 2-3 hours to complete. The walk has lovely panoramic views and starts from Halls Gap.

The walk route is:
  • The walk begins from the Halls Gap Recreation Reserve oval which is just north of the intersection of Grampians Road and Mount Victory Road. There is a signpost at the back of the oval
  • Walk through open forest to the base of Clematis Falls (best after rain)
  • Retrace your steps 100m to an intersection and follow signage through rock areas.
  • Climb steeply up to Chatauqua Peak which requires some climbing up and over rocks
  • Return to the main track.
  • Follow signage to Halls Gap via Bullaces Glen
  • Pass through a lovely fern grove to Mt Victory Road
  • Cross the road and continue through the Botanic Garden to Halls Gap
There is 200 metres elevation and the track is very steep with moderate difficulty. Near the summit there is some climbing over rocks which makes it unsuitable for those with mobility limitations or young children. There are magnificent views of the Grampians National Park and Mount Gar Ranges from the summit. The walk passes Clematis Falls which is a seasonal waterfall and is best viewed after rain. The flow of water varies significantly and during the winter months between April and August are best period to observe higher flows.

The route is signposted but taking a map is advisable.
