Hallam Valley Trail (Hampton Park - Berwick)

Located among native wetlands and picturesque surrounds, the 10km circuit meanders through the Hallam Creek Valley and is accessible via a number of key Casey landmarks.

The Hallam Valley Trail consists of flat concrete which is suitable for all abilities. It would take the average pedestrian approximately 2.5 hours to walk to the complete circuit.

The trail has two main parking areas (at the ends of the trail) which are located at KM Reedy Reserve (11 Pound Road, Hampton Park) and Sweeney Reserve (70I Melzak Way, Berwick).

Review:

This is a long walk unless you use two cars and so we split the walk into three parts with our kids and dog (on-leash).

We started at the LM Reedy Reserve. At far end of the car park near a playground with a bin, shelter with four tables, but no water tap is a concrete path which is the start of the trail. The path winds through parkland with the fences of houses on one side and open grassy areas on the other side with some areas of trees.

The trail is fairly quiet and doesn't have a lot of bike traffic.

The trail is very well signposted with regular trial markers with maps and distance to major points. There are seats at some places beside the trial.

At Hallam Road, cross to the other side of the bridge (north side), where there's some traffic lights at a pedestrian crossing. Continue through wetlands where we saw lots of ibis, some egrets and black swans. This is a very nice section of the walk.

You pass a playground opposite #7 Lochard Terrace in Narre Warren South where there is a rubbish bin. Sadly most people with dogs along the route don't bother collecting the poop and putting it in a bin.

You then pass a grassy area with AFL / rugby goal posts. When you cross a bridge to get to the north side of the creek there is graveyard for discarded shopping trolleys in the creek. The next major intersection is Shrives Road where there is 4.6km to go. On a Sunday we saw model aircraft flying from a field on our left.

The path is an elevated concrete path beside the creek with lots of reeds and tall grass. You then reach the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road to cross. This point is 3.6km from Sweeney Reserve.

On the side of the pleasant gumtree lined track is a wetlands area and lake which has a gravel path around the lake. In a corner of the lake is a playground (at Loxley Boulevard Reserve). You then cross a bridge and follow the Hallam Main Drain to the huge Sweeney Reserve.
