Guide Park Playground, Graham Street, Wonthaggi
The regional scale playspace has had a huge upgrade and has a lot of lovely elements.
Set in a huge sea of sand (are we in Wonthaggi or Saudi Arabia?) is a mine themed tower with a big, twisting tunnel slide. The first level of the tower can be reached by a ramp or rope net. At this level is some sand play equipment with chains and a pulley. Climb a ladder from the first level to the second level where the big slide starts. At this top level there is a speak and listen system so that you can tell all your friends that you reached the top.
On the side of the tower is a large elevated sandpit with a water pump and channel with two frogs zenning on the side.
On the side of the sandy area is a large tunnel formed by thin branches, a concrete tunnel, circular area with vertical logs and a water pump with a long, winding channel for water to flow down a hill.
Also an in-ground trampoline, circle of logs steppers around a tree, all abilities spinning disk, birds nest swing, two standard swings, horizontal bars, game to thread a metal ring along a zigzag bar without touching the bar (we promise you that you won't get an electric shock if you touch the bar), little circular walking track with some steps and a platform to navigate (or is that a presentation dais for the winner).
Off to the the side is a dual flying fox with disk seat and a rubber seat, big metal frame parkour area, shelter with two tables, two unshaded tables and big grassy area dotted with some trees.
There is a separate fenced area for toddlers with a big log, stump and plank stepper circuit under shady trees and a platform with a small wave slide and scrambling wall. There are lots more rock and log steppers scattered about. This is definitely an area for those who want to show off their balance skills.
There is a shelter with three tables and BBQs, water tap, seats and toilets. The playground area is well fenced off from the main road.
