Girgarre - Gargarro Botanic Garden
The Gargarro Botanic Garden aims to be a unique and world class botanical installation which is bold and beautiful and exhibits best practice from a design, sustainability and indigenous plantings perspective.
Gargarro's design reflects the dry landscapes of the Campaspe region, presents an interplay between geometric water features and indigenous flora, and houses all these elements in a native garden setting.
Gargarro features the gardens, soundshell, Gargarro cafe and Green Thumbs Nursery (opening times).
The garden will include:
- A barbecue area for families and groups of friends to socialise
- A tribute to water - the garden will have water tower lookouts, an ephemeral river bed and water channels.
- Interactive trails - will include walking and cycling trails with interactive sensory experiences
- Native vegetation - will host a range of native, rare and endangered indigenous plants
- Soundshell - will feature a large amphitheatre for the staging of musical and creative events
Review:
We visited in late 2024 and the location was very well developed and a lovely destination to visit. There were extensive gardens which were very well labelled, areas of water, expansive lawn area, huge sound shell, lookout tower, Nursery and cafe.
