Fryerstown - Duke Of Cornwall Engine House
The ruins of the Duke of Cornwall Engine House are located along the Vaughan-Chewton Road in Fryerstown. The ruins are a relic of 19th century mining. There is a good view of the building from the the roadside. The engine house is enclosed by a tall wire security fence.
The engine house, erected circa 1865 for the Anglo Australian Goldmining Co. is a tall, stone structure which is almost square in plan and constructed in coursed rubble with brick dressings to the various round-headed openings. There is a tall chimney, largely of stone but with a brick top section and a gable is another feature.
How to get there: Turn south off the Pyrenees Highway at Chewton and and pass 'Herons Reef' along the Vaughan-Chewton Road. Keep going and you will soon come to the Duke of Cornwall Engine House which is located to the right of the road. A sign stands on the left and points over the road to the engine house.
