FREE CHRISTMAS EVENTS IN CENTRAL MELBOURNE
Myer Christmas WindowWhat: The Myer windows are a long standing tradition which is entering its 68th magical year. This year the display has the theme of Bluey's Christmas.

Myer Santaland
What: Take a ride on the Santaland express, send him a letter from Santa's Workshop and get a photo of your little ones meeting him. Note: Bookings are highly recommended. The Santaland experience is free but if you want to take your Santa photo home you will need to purchase a photo package.

Christmas Square
What: Christmas comes to life at Christmas Square at Federation Square. There are festive decorations aplenty centred around the city's iconic 16-metre light-up tree.

Santa's Workshop
What: Santa and his elves are hard at work in his Melbourne workshop, making toys and presents for the big day. It's a busy time of year and there's lots of tools and machinery to help Santa get ready. Say hello to the big man and pose for a photo. Note: there may be a small wait time during busy periods.

Town Hall Christmas Projections
What: During the day, there are nutcracker soldiers, the iconic town hall bow and beautiful themed flower beds and after dark towering projections bath the building in beautiful displays.

Christmas Decorations
What: The Giant Reindeer sparkles at Victoria Harbour (near Merchant Street), the Christmas Star shines on Evan Walker Bridge, an impressive light show shines over Bourke Street Mall and the popular Nutcracker soldiers stand guard across the city. Also in the Docklands area, there are iconic Merry Christmas letters across Harbour Esplanade, traditional crackers along New Quay Promenade and Victoria Harbour Promenade and giant present boxes scattered throughout the entire precinct.

Docklands Christmas Maze
What: Santa has lost his elves! Can you help find them? Make your way through this giant present-themed maze with fun interactive games and find all the elves for a chance to win exciting prizes.

Christmas Roller Rink
What: Get your skates on! Christmas has come to Carlton with a pop-up roller skating rink in Argyle Square. Whether it's whole-family fun or a cute date night, roll around to classic tunes with free entry and $10 skate hire. Piazza Italia also gets a Christmas makeover with a giant purple Christmas tree and decorations.

Laneway Learning Crafty Christmas
What: Create low-waste, handmade decorations and gifts for friends and family as Laneway Learning hosts a Christmas crafternoon. Learn to DIY decorations, greeting cards and gift-wrapping at a free pop-up stall. Or opt in to longer $18 classes to try your hand at paper wreaths, macrame Christmas trees, personalised ornaments and more.

What: Watch stunning projections take over State Library Victoria from the Swanston Street forecourt. A Christmas Tale
What: Beci Orpin's original animated Christmas film "A Christmas Tale" will be shown on the Big Screen each evening leading up until Christmas. The 10-minute animation brings to life a playful fusion of Australian Christmas scenes and characters in her colourful, graphic and dream-like style.

Christmas River Show
What: A spectacular river show is coming to the Birrarung - Yarra River this Christmas! Head to Southbank (near Evan Walker Bridge) to catch this dazzling Christmas show featuring water fountains, lasers, light projections and a festive soundtrack. Shows will run every 15 minutes each night.

Christmas Treasure Hunt
What: Take a Christmas adventure in Carlton Gardens. Collect a map and answer sheet from The Royal Society of Victoria, and go on a treasure hunt to find all the answers. Return your completed sheet to collect a prize! This activity is designed to be completed within one hour. Suitable for children up to 10 years old.

Christmas Quest
What: Gather family and friends and set off on the ultimate city Christmas quest. Collect a map from The Royal Society of Victoria and see how many checkpoints you can reach, solving clues and answering questions about Melbourne's iconic locations and Christmas activities. Return your completed sheet for the chance to win a prize pack of the best Melbourne experiences! This activity has been designed to be completed within three hours. All locations can be accessed by foot and are in the free tram zone. Suitable for all ages however we recommend children under 16 participate with adults.

Japan Christmas Festival
What: Immerse yourself in the culture of Japan with a day of creative workshops, market stalls and live music at the Japaneasy studios. Join Christmas themed workshops and make your own special Christmas gifts including Wagashi-making, Sumi-e Japanese ink art and Hanko stamp carving. Entry is free for the markets; costs and times vary for the workshops. Bookings are recommended, however walk-ins are also welcome.

Meet Santa and Friends at the Docklands
What: Roving entertainment including Santa, the spirited Christmas tree, and Rudolf the Rednosed Reindeer will bring magic to the enchanting Docklands precinct.

Melbourne City Christmas Treasure Hunt
What: Collect a free treasure map from Mary Martin Bookshop in Southbank and embark on a quest for clues among Melbourne's hidden laneways. The treasure map was designed by local children's author and illustrator Mitchell Toy. Toy has also created a stunning Christmas illustration on the bookshop window featuring characters from the book and a final clue.
The treasure hunt begins and ends at Mary Martin Bookshop and is aimed at children aged between 5 and 12 years, although all are welcome to take part. This year's route takes approximately 90-minutes to complete and includes short stretches by tram. Children who complete the treasure hunt and solve the riddle receive a treasure bag of sweets and the chance to win a prize in the Golden Bookmark lucky dip.

Browse at Ambiance
What: Browse the five rooms of Ambiance which has one of the largest ranges of Christmas ornaments and decorations from all over the world, many of them unique and unusual. Browsing is free but can you resist buying something from the amazing collection?

What: A beautiful sparkling tree set in the ornate foyer of an impressive building.

Christmas Carnival
What: Enjoy festive thrills on the banks of the Birrarung at the Christmas Carnival. Ride the ferris wheel, drive the dodgems or get the best view of the city lights as you spin 35-metres in the air on top of the Sky Flyer. Try your luck at much-loved carnival games and complete the experience with classic carnival food. Entry is free. Tickets for each ride can be purchased at the ticket box on site.

Boho Luxe Market: Christmas Edition
What: At the Boho Luxe Market you'll see the work of some of Melbourne's most talented jewellers, fashion designers, illustrators, artists, and makers. Plus there are creative workshops available, and psychic readings throughout the day. Enjoy cool tunes, great food and browse some of the most beautiful market stalls in Melbourne. Entry is free but can you resist buying something.

As Camp as Christmas
What: If you've found yourself on the naughty list this year, then come and join The Huxleys for the festive frenzy of As Camp as Christmas. Returning for the second year to Fed Square, this will be a rainbow celebration to make all your wildest Christmas wishes come true. The sparkling celebrations will commence with a screening of the spandex and glittertastic Baz Luhrmann classic, Strictly Ballroom, on our Big Screen, followed by a live performance by the Rainbow Voices Community Choir and the Divine Divas Show Choir on the Main Stage.

What: Bring your family to experience the show on the Atrium staircase with Crown's festive dance troupe. The QV Tree Experience
What: Immerse yourself into the all-new QV Christmas Tree of Wonder, towering 21.5 metres tall with over 15,000 twinkling lights and an immersive photo experience. Designed and fabricated by globally renowned public art maker Felipe Reynolds, expressing a quintessentially Melbourne Christmas, the tree will feature bespoke decorations including a skateboarding fairy penguin, winged AFL football, Formula 1 race car, Flinders St Station, designer sneaker stockings, a Star Tram Express, Kimono Graffiti Kat, Xmas Noodle Box, and so much more.

What: Pillars of Light, in celebration of Chanukah, is providing Melbournians with an opportunity to come together over a multicultural celebration, focusing on what unites us as a city. Australian Nativity Scene
What: One of Australia's best and largest traditional nativity scene created by Wilson Fernandez. Each week the nativity scene conveys the story of Christmas. It features scenes starting with Mary and Joseph looking for a place to stay, finding only a stable free, the birth of Jesus, visits from the shepherds, the three kings and ends with the holy family fleeing to Egypt.

Bayside Christmas Carols in the Park (Brighton East)
What: Headline acts Rhona Burchmore and Richard Thomas will be joined by a stellar support ensemble, including Sean Mills, Annie Jones, 15-year-old singer Zoe Sunday and 20-year-old vocal sensation Paris Sims. The Diamante Duo, aka Violeta and Michael, also add a classic touch to the event.

Carols at Como Park is hosted by musical theatre icon Rhonda Burchmore and features Thndo, Ash Flanders and Margot Morales.

What: Carols will be jam-packed with fun and exciting activities like face painting, roving performances, art & craft activities, a twilight market and, of course, lots of singing. Santa himself will make a special appearance. The concert will be graced by the tunes of the Diamond Valley Brass Band as they serenade us with beloved traditional carols. Joining them will be the Community Carols Choir, composed of 60 dedicated City of Whittlesea community members.

Festive Family Fun Day (Keilor Downs)
What: Bring your family and friends to enjoy a full stage show program of entertainment, community performers and sing-a-long Christmas carols. There also will delicious food to tempt your taste buds, as well as face painting, craft activities for the kids to show off their creative flair or they can learn how to hoola hoop. And you will get the chance to pose for a festive photo in our Christmas Wonderland with the jolly fellow in red, Santa Claus.

Melton Carols by Candlelight (Melton)
What: Activities include face painting, craft activities, Becky Bubbles, food trucks and stage entertainment with Christmas carol singalongs.

Carols in Queens Park (Moonee Ponds)
What: An evening of carols, children's activities and festive cheer. Entertainment includes Silvie Paladino, Tahlia Eve, Team Dream, Moonee Valley Brass, Community Choir and MC Richard Thomas.
