Ford Park Walk (Bellfield)
An easy, flat 3km concrete surface walking loop around Ford Park, local streets and Darebin Creek.
To explore this area, enter at any of these points on the circuit:
This scenic trail runs through parks and local streets, with Darebin Creek to the west. Ford Park features playgrounds, exercise equipment, basketball court, BBQs and picnic shelters. There is an off-lead dog park in the southwestern corner of the park. If you continue the walk along Darebin Creek trail, you will see lots of flora and fauna, and an eye-catching mural across the creek.
Flora and fauna to look out for include the red wattle bird, spotted pardalote, flowering gums and wild flowers. Bring a picnic and enjoy the many attractions of the park.
The walking circuit can be accessed by bus routes 250, 350 and 540 which run along Oriel Road, and bus route 513 which runs along Bell Street. You will find accessible toilet amenities in Ford Park, with accessible car parking available off Perkins Avenue.
At the end of your walk, enjoy a cold drink, or fish and chips at the adjacent Banksia Street shops.
Access for Dogs:
Dogs are permitted on leash on the walk. There are off-leash areas in Ford Park and also a fenced dog park.
Review:
A very pleasant walk which starts at Ford Park which has lots of recreational facilities including two ovals, a nice playground, outdoor gym circuit, bike track for younger kids, basketball court with soccer goals, cricket nets, picnic facilities including shaded tables, BBQs, water tap and toilets (at the pavilion), bike repair station, dog off leash areas and a fenced dog park on the south side of the park.
After leaving the park, there is a footpath to the Darebin Creek Trail which is a shared concrete path. This is the nicest part of the walk.
Below the trail is a dirt track which runs along the bank of the Darebin Creek which is an alternative to the Darebin Creek Trail. Along this section keep an eye out for a fantastic fish mural on the other side of the creek.
Take the path labelled "Liberty Pde 300m" and at the intersection of paths ahead, head south on footpaths down Liberty Parade and then left along Carlyle Cresecent to get back to Ford Park.
