Flagstaff Gardens Playground, William Street, West Melbourne
The playground received an upgrade in 2013 which gives it a bit more edginess. There is a huge semi-spherical climbing frame with an assortment of different sized ropes and nets, horizontal wooden ladder, balance slide and plastic swing / hammock (choose the mode depending on how energetic you are). A decent sized structure with straight slide, wiggly wave slide, tunnel, high balance beam, curved rope ladders, tunnel, steps, inclined walkway with stepping boards and fireman's poles. The highest slide is not so easy for non confident climbers to reach. There is also a family sized see-saw, large sandpit (with some shade) with two diggers and a little sand play table (BYO bucket and spade for maximum enjoyment). Standard swings and a frame with five swings (without safety chain) so family fights about who gets the swing should be eliminated (unless you happen to have six kids and in that case, I'm sure you are used to family fights anyway).
There are unshaded tables and seats, BBQs, water tap, toilets and lots of grassy areas in the huge park (most areas with some degree of slope). Overall it is a fun play with cityscapes in the background and close to Victoria Market as an added attraction.
