Fishermans Beach (Mornington)
Fishermans Beach is a very accessible popular beach, which can provide a few waves to play in.
Fishermans Beach is 550m long and is located in lee of Linley Point. The Esplanade runs on 20 m high bluffs right behind the beach. Between the road and beach is a narrow foreshore reserve, with a seawall at the base of the bluffs and a few boat sheds on the beach. A car park has been built at the base of Linley Point, which also provides access to a double boat ramp.
Swimming - A moderately safe beach when waves are low. However, there is variable water depth owing to the presence of the bars and rip channels. Currents will intensify if waves are breaking. Best to bathe up the beach, away from the point where boats are launched.
Fishermans Beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 3/10 (Least hazardous). It is unpatrolled.
Review:
There are a number of lookout positions at the top of the cliff overlooking the beach. A path opposite #729, Esplanade leads down to the beach via a wooden staircase with 41 steps.
A nice long, wide beach which is sandy and has few rocks. Definitely a beach for more than fishermen! The more north you travel up the beach, the more stones there are on the beach. The northern end is also narrower and has about twelve colourful beach huts. At the extreme north end is a sea-wall and toilets.
At the south end is a drain / creek which enters the bay. Be careful here since there is soft sand here with the danger of sinking. The end of the beach has a sea-wall, boat ramps and toilets. There is a car park at the southern end opposite #719, Esplanade.
The best advice is to stay in the central part of the beach.
Lilo Cafe is located opposite Fishermans beach at #725, Esplanade.
