Fairview Park Dog Off Leash Area (Hawthorn)
A lovely lush area with a varied array of trees along the north side, a path along the Yarra River and a huge flat grassy area. There are steep paths down to the flat area from the road on the east side. On the west side is a playground. Shaded and unshaded seats are provided throughout the park. The park is popular and you will find quite a lot of dogs and their owners.
Parking can be a touch difficult. There are two cricket pitches on the grassy area and access would be restricted during matches. There is a decent fenced playground which dogs are prohibited from.
Outside the fence is a water tap with bowl and bin. Further west is more grassy area dotted with a nice variety of large trees. At the west end of the park is another water tap with bowl, two unshaded tables, BBQs and bins. There is a gravel bank at one point down to the river where confident dogs can swim.
In the 1880s, the reserve was called Tea Gardens and it was a popular destination by boat.
