Epping North Conservation Reserve Walk (Epping)
A natural Heritage trail with historic places and points of interest, local flora, fauna and ecological values.
Suitable for all active families and pleasure walkers. Note that dogs are not permitted.
The walk has easy flat levels with boardwalks, concrete and gravel paths. There are a lot of information boards and some seats along the paths but no water tap. There are plenty of possible entry points into the reserve.
The 14ha Conservation Reserve has been set aside to enhance and maintain local flora, fauna and ecological values. This will be achieved through the control of pest animals and high threat weeds, ecological burning, revegetation, and increased public education.
The conservation open space supports remnant stands of River Red-Gums (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) scattered Yellow Box (Eucalyptus melliodora) and some Swamp Gum (Eucalyptus ovata). Several raised basalt stony knolls occur which support inconspicuous indigenous species such as lilies and herbs. Within this larger open space, several indigenous species such as Short-Stem Sedge (Carex breviculmis) and Gold Rush (Juncos flavidus) can be found along a north south drainage line.
The area provides a place for local residents to explore and enjoy this example of the natural landscapes that existed in the area prior to the current residential development.
Please be aware that snakes may be encountered when entering this open space. Snakes are a natural part of the local fauna and are protected under the Wildlife Act 1975.
Entry to the conservation reserve is prohibited on Total Fire Ban days.
