Elsternwick Plaza Playground, Riddell Parade, Elsternwick
The playground is located at the start of the Rosstown Rail Trail and it's a case of all aboard this transport themed playground encompassing trains and planes. There is a nice train with carriages on a railroad track with a tunnel engine. There is also a cute steam train springer and a high compact structure with spiral slide, climbing wall, block steps, honeycomb mat climbing wall, rope bridge, steps, cafe shop front, standard shop front (in case you don't have the money for a fancy cafe), animal shape panel and at the very top is a big bi-plane which you can sit in and fly. This structure looks a bit like one you will find in a McDonalds playground but has the advantage you don't need to eat the bland burgers. In addition there is a stand-on spinner and swings.
Around the playground area are unshaded seats, smallish grassy area with a big shady tree, water tap, BBQs and unshaded tables. There are also cafes and eating places nearby.
The playground was upgraded in 2016.
The 7 km long Rosstown Rail Trail follows the start of an extinct railway route which started as one man's innovative dream and became his personal folly. There are brochures for the rail trail on an information board next to the playground.
Access for Dogs:
Elsternwick Plaza is an on-leash area, which means you must keep your dog on-leash at all times.
