The two Moreton Bay Fig Trees on the southern corner of the building were grown from seed provided by William Guilfoyle, who was the curator of the Melbourne Botanic Gardens between 1870 - 1909. His brother, Joseph, lived in Echuca and William provided the seeds of many trees in Echuca, including these Moreton Bay Fig trees. It is estimated that they were planted between 1875 -1880.

Access for Dogs:

There is an area in the back yard where dogs can be secured. Your dog is welcome to visit but not inside the museum building. Exceptions are Seeing Eye dogs and Companion dogs (must present card).
Why does it have to be tied up? Many people are allergic to or frightened of dogs. Please respect this. Also there are numerous mice and termite baits around the premises.
