Eastlink Trail (Donvale - Dandenong)
The 30km long EastLink Trail is a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians, which follows the EastLink tollway for most of its length from Ringwood to Dandenong.
See a detailed map of the route.
The route description by Bloke on a Bike is:
The trail starts as a continuation of the Koonung Creek Trail near where The Eastern Freeway and Springvale Road intersect in Donvale. This is close to 44 Astelot Drive, Donvale. The trail heads east for a while before it connects with the Mullum Mullum Creek Trail and then takes a more southerly route as it follows the Eastlink tollway.
Some people take the train to Ringwood station and follow the Mullum Mullum Creek Trail westward until it hits the Eastlink Trail.
After passing Whitehorse Road and Canterbury Road the trail moves away from the freeway for a short distance to follow the quieter Dandenong Creek before crossing the Burwood Highway and re-joining the freeway.
At Ferntree Gully Road, a short westerly direction is taken for a quick visit to the corner of Jells Park (don't take the westerly Dandenong Creek Trail route here by mistake) and then it is over Ferntree Gully Road and south along the Dandenong Creek Trail for several kilometres before turning right onto the Eastlink Trail just after passing under the tollway.
Continue passing the Monash Freeway and then, when you come to Oakwood Avenue, turn right (crossing the tollway) and take a sharp left onto Heyington Crescent where, at the end of this street, the Eastlink Trail continues in Oakwood Park.
Once you cross Cheltenham Road you will know that you are nearing the end of the EastLink Trail, it very shortly joins the Dandenong Bypass Trail and the Dandenong Creek Trail. The end of the trail is near the intersection of Eastlink and the Dandenong Bypass.
Connections- The EastLink Trail connects to numerous other paths including the Mullum Mullum Creek Trail in the north, the Koonung Creek Trail and the Blind Creek Trail just south of High Street. Close by are the Scotchmans Creek Trail which is accessible by crossing through Oaks and Ashes Picnic Areas, and the Ferny Creek Trail and the Dandenong Creek Trail.
Two sections of the EastLink Trail utilize sections of the older Dandenong Creek Trail.
