Dinosaur World (Somerville)
Step through the gates and travel back millions of years...
The Dinosaurs have come out to play at Somerville Christmas Tree Farm!
Experience the dinosaurs up close and personal. The amazing animatronics makes you feel like your in the land before time.
There is plenty to see and do - Meet "Wilson" our walking dinosaur, have a carriage ride around our Christmas Tree Farm, enjoy feeding "Priscilla and Edward" our resident geese, and "Sammy" our duck. Enjoy meeting our loud, but friendly dinosaurs.
We also have our "Dig and Discover" area, where children can experience digging for and finding a buried fossil and then sit and "chisel" away to find what awaits inside. Colouring in competitions, have a picnic. It's all up to you how you experience this new Mornington Peninsula treasure.

Review:
This place rocks, although that might just be the tremor from the huge T-Rex. A fantastic destination for any family with kids in the age range 2-9 who have any type of interest in dinosaurs. The excitement and fascination displayed by the young visitors is wonderful to see. About the only way of generating more excitement would be to tell the young visitors that there are now two Christmas' per year. Dinosaur World also has that covered because they also grow Christmas trees!
There are a large number of dinosaurs on display and many of them are animatronic with movements and sounds. The dinosaurs are displayed beside gravel paths which wind through an area of shady trees. The displays include an information board with details such as the type of dinosaur, how to say the name (a mandatory requirement for any dinosaur display), a description, period when the dinosaur lived, size, location, habitat and diet.
After leaving the dinosaur forest, you come to a grassy area with a large marquee. The marquee has tables (including pencils and crayons to colour in), giant dinosaur jigsaw puzzle, sandpit with buckets and spades and the "Dig and Discover" area where they can become a palaeontologist and dig and discover a fossil which they can take home as a keepsake.
Outside the marquee is a pleasant grassy area with picnic tables, a large plastic dinosaur playground, a board decorated with dinosaurs with holes for the kids to stick their heads through and an area with some huge dinosaur eggs (the kids can get inside one of the eggs).
The exit leads through the barn which has a souvenir shop stocked with dinosaur items. Good luck convincing the kids they don't need a souvenir to take home. The good news is that there are reasonably priced items to buy. The barn also has hot and cold drinks and ice creams for sale. A real cafe for parents would be an improvement.
Outside is a pond with geese. It is possible to buy some food to feed them.
A highlight of a visit is having a photo taken with Wilson the walking dinosaur who is larger than a person (that could be because there is a person hiding inside). Wilson has a sundial and should appear each day around 11:30, 1:30 and 3:30. A smaller baby raptor, Wilbur, also appears a number of times throughout the day.
There is also a free tractor ride around the Christmas trees each day at 3:30.
The staff are very friendly, engaged and helpful which makes your stay more pleasant.
If you just come and look at the dinosaurs, then it will be a short visit and you may feel that it is not worth the money. However, plan your visit to include all the attractions and bring along some food and drinks and have a picnic here. It will be a nice day out.
