Dandenong Creek Trail (Wellington Rd - Tirhatuan Park) (Mulgrave)
The Dandenong Creek Trail is a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians, which follows Dandenong Creek through the outer eastern and south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The total length is approximately 49 km from Kilsyth South to Port Phillip Bay, Carrum
Directions for this part of the trail are ...Under the Wellington Rd underpass, under EastLink then past the dead end of Police Rd. The trail narrows between the creek and some houses and 600m from Police Rd opens out onto Tirhatuan Park. There are a few paths through the park but it is easier to just follow the creek and skirt the park on its east side ....
Review:
We started at the northern end of Holmbury Boulevard (just off Wellington Road) and followed a wide concrete path. After crossing under the Eastlink, the path splits into the Eastlink trail (up the hill) or the Dandenong Creek Trail on the left which quickly turns to a gravel path. You pass a playground just after this (Blanton Drive, Mulgrave) and continue to the much larger playground at Tirhatuan Park, Dandenong North. There is also a smallish lake with waterbirds and large open grassy spaces. The total distance in one direction is about 4 km.
