Creekbend Reserve (Rosanna)
Creek Bend Reserve is a 5.6 hectare linear reserve which runs beside Banyule Creek. It has large river red gums, and is part of an important wildlife corridor for rainbow lorikeets, tawny frogmouths and other animals.
Activities in the park include walking/bike trails and wildlife observation.
History
Creek Bend Reserve was originally intended to be a freeway reserve, and was once a weedy landscape with little community access. Banyule's Bushland Management Unit has controlled many noxious weeds at this site, and the reserve is now accessible by a trail.
Flora and Fauna
The reserve is in the Gippsland Plain bioregion, and has many vegetation communities, including: creekline grassy woodland - river red gum (creek), plains grassy woodland - river red gum (exposed plain - slope) and plains grassy woodland - river red gum (terrace/valley).
Access for Dogs
Dogs are permitted off lead.
Review:
There are a couple of ways to start this walk. You can follow the shared trail from 111 Banyule Road, Rosanna which is the easy way or a more adventurous route from the corner of Banyule Road and Sussex Place where there's a bus stop (line 517)and small parking area at the start of the walk.
From the second location, cross the bridge and follow the creek to where the grassy area ends. Follow a dirt track and cross the creek through a pine tree forest to reach the shared path.
The shared trail runs parallel to the manky and overgrown creek/drain and ends at Lower Plenty Road. The distance of the walk is 1.1km one-way.
