Central Park Playground, Kingston Street, Malvern East
Two wooden structures for different age levels. The harder one has a nice spiral slide, spiral, curved and chain ladders, monkey bars, flying fox and curved balance beam. The other structure is much lower with slide, tunnel, walkway and fireman's pole. Four swings and see-saw. Lovely English trees provide some shade. A fence offers protection from the road. A pond is reasonably close so some attention is needed. The park is a dog off leash area.
Near the oval is "Lost Lands Found Flowering Grasslands". It's a home for indigenous wildflowers, grasses, herbs and lilies. The 4m x 4m space represents an ecological treasure suspended in time. This "Lost Lands Found" eco-space is a microhabitat of the Flowering Grasslands that once thrived on this site. Victoria's Flowering Grasslands were a biodiverse ecosystem stretching across much of Victoria and into South Australia. Less than 1% of this vibrant habitat remains intact today. "Lost Lands Found" offers a glimpse into the 'as it once was' of this ancient land through personal connections to the intricate beauty of our local ecological micro-cosmos.
