Central Geelong Arts and Cultural Walking Trails (Geelong)
Central Geelong is home to a range of interesting cultural and historical sites such as art studios and galleries, striking public artworks, creative spaces and exciting performing arts locations.
There are four separate trails, each with a map, which take a different amount of time to complete. Timings are worked out for the 'average' walker and do not include the amount of time you may wish to spend at any one location.
Three of the trails offer an intriguing selection of cultural aspects of Central Geelong. The Waterfront Geelong Bollards Trail focuses entirely on the painted wooden bollards which depict over 100 historic Geelong characters.
The locations on the maps are numbered and colourcoded according to cultural type.

Trail Map 1 - 48 Sites

We recommend you take a full day - or even two days - to complete this comprehensive map. It features: major cultural icons; the Central Geelong galleries; the hilltop churches and key heritage locations; the Eastern Park precinct; Waterfront public art; the Woolstores district and the Johnstone Park precinct. It also reveals a glimpse of the underlying Indigenous history. Remember that some of the larger sites, such as the Geelong Gallery, Old Geelong Gaol, Geelong Botanic Gardens and National Wool
Museum, offer fascinating tours.

This is a medium-length trail for walkers who have up to half a day. It takes in a selection of cultural locations, omitting only the hilltop churches and a few other locations. It begins with the major cultural icons, then follows a more or less direct
route through Central Geelong to the Geelong Botanic Gardens and 'Rhythms of Life' Geoglyph. Then, after an abbreviated tour of the magnificent Waterfront, it follows the wool story up through the Woolstores district, finishing in beautiful Johnstone Park.

Estimated Walking Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
This short trail is perfect to catch the essence of Geelong's cultural life. It features selections from most of the areas mentioned in Map 1, but not the hilltop churches or the Eastern Park precinct. You may wish to visit these locations at a later date.
