Central Gardens Playground, Henry Street, Hawthorn
The iconic rocket playground has had a booster rocket upgrade in preparation for its next journey to Neptune.
The HUGE rocket is four levels high with internal ladders reaching up to the highest level which has two steering wheels. From the first level there's a curved slide and from the second level there's a tunnel slide to blast back down to earth.
The playground has an elevated mission control centre with all the gauges needed to get that rocket safely on its way into space, a panel which lets you travel through the solar system, shopfront (selling moon rock souvenirs), wave slide, rope net ladder, standard ladder, hanging disk traverse and monkey bars.
There are also five swings (one with harness), birds nest swing, cup to sit in and spin around, beautiful carousel with three horse seats and a hand water pump under shade where kids can pump water down a series of channels to a drain.
In the centre is a circular seat under a metal roof with a star constellation engraved in it. When the playground with upgraded in mid 2022 the star constellation looked like this at that time.
The playground is set in beautiful gardens with water tap, toilets and plenty of seats, tables, BBQ and shade.
There is limited one and two hour parking in the area.
