Portland - Cape Nelson State Park

There are many things to do in this striking coastal park which include enjoying a picnic, going on a coastal walk and appreciating the beautiful heritage listed lighthouses.
Picnics
The Cape Nelson Picnic Area is a tranquil bush setting, located on the Norman Wade Scenic Drive close to several enjoyable walks.
Norman Wade Scenic Drive
This is a shared drive and cycle route, which takes in several sea-cliff lookouts. Road users should be alert and mindful of each other.
Cape Nelson Lighthouse
Cape Nelson Lighthouse is a must visit heritage listed lighthouse, which is open daily with free access to the grounds. Lighthouse tours are provided by prior arrangement and luxury accommodation is available at Keeper's Cottage.
Cape Nelson Lighthouse Walk (6km)
This is a relatively easy walk that will take you through the coastal heathland, Soap Mallee and several coastal lookouts. It is essential to bring plenty of water, comfortable shoes, a hat and sunscreen.
Great South West Walk (250km)
Experience some of Australia's most beautiful scenery and wildlife on this great 250km loop walk. It also passes Point Danger, where Victoria's only mainland gannets breeding colony is located. The Cape Nelson section of this great walk has locations that intersect the roads and tracks around Cape Nelson.
Facilities - Cape Nelson State Park has a picnic area, fireplaces, tables, toilets, a self-guided walk and lighthouse for visitors to enjoy. There is no camping in this park, except for GSWW registered hikers in the GSWW Mallee Camp. Please note that camping fees apply at this site for GSWW members.
Access for Dogs:
Dogs and other pets are not permitted in this park.
