Canadian Bay Beach (Mount Eliza)

Canadian Bay Beach is composed of two sandy beaches which are 850m long backed by red bluffs and dominated by reefs, with good access and parking.

Access - The Canadian Bay Road is used for access to both Canadian Bay beach and Half Moon Bay beach. There is a reserve with picnic facilities and a car park. A seawall protects the southern side of the point while, on the northern side, is a large boat club (Canadian Bay Club), and a second car park behind Canadian Bay at the end of Williams Road. A walking track runs along the bluffs above Canadian Bay.

Swimming - Canadian Bay beach is relatively safe when waves are low, with care required at low tide around the rocks and reefs. Strong westerlies and higher waves generate strong rips along both beaches, with permanent rips during westerly conditions against the rocks and reefs.

Canadian Bay beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 3/10 (Least hazardous).

Review:

Beside the carpark at the west end of Canadian Bay Road is a picnic area with six picnic tables, water tap and toilets. Steps lead down to the beach on the right side of the Canadian Bay Club (private property). Cliffs back onto the beach and after 100m Ballar Creek flows into the bay. The creek was barely trickling and can be easily crossed. There are a number of wooden staircases descending down to the beach from the cliff above (3 in total) and a wooden bridge connects two of them to provide a dry way of crossing the creek.

The beach is nice and sandy and quite wide and long (850m in total). This beach is nicer than the nearby Half Moon Bay which is reached from the same carpark.
