Camperdown & District Heritage Centre
The museum has an extensive collection of photographs, documents, artefacts and memorabilia house in a century old building.
It includes artefacts from the pre-settlement period. There is a good range of Aboriginal weapons and tools. It explores the Emu Creek Massacre, where the settler perpetrators, despite much anger from the community escaped justice apart from having a street name changed.
There is a lot of information on the early settlers with diary extracts and war history. To make the most of the museum, read all the information notes and come out with a greater appreciation of how Camperdown came to be.
The Centre has research facilities including up to date IT equipment, computerised records and expert volunteers to assist with family and local history research.
There are guided tours of historic Camperdown and district, by arrangement (fee applies).
Opening Hours:
The Heritage Centre is open to visitors on Tuesdays & on the 1st Sunday of every month, from 10am-3pm. The centre is run by volunteers.
