Bushy Creek Parklands (Box Hill North)
Made up of three distinct parks, Bushy Creek Parklands are jam-packed with cultural history and present-day environmental strategies to conserve water in the garden.
Parking is located next to the Evangelical Chinese Church on Elgar Road or in off-street parking bays adjacent to the park in Wimmera Street. Both locations are in Box Hill North.
The Park highlights include public art in Bushy Creek East, remnant bushland in Memorial Park, historical sites, a shared trail with links to other cycling tracks, picnic tables, information board and a number of playgrounds.
The track is 1.7 km in length, 1.5m wide and made of smooth asphalt.
Trail description: Start at Elgar Road at the lights at the end of Belmore Road and head through the church car park opposite, through the opening in the wooden rail fence. The path is bitumen from here on. The trail follows an easement crossing several roads. There are two unclear forks in the path - keep right at each.
Look for the wooden bus shelter on the eastern side of Station Street that marks the site of the first Electric Tram Depot (1889 - 1896). At Dorking Road, the bushy area ends. The trail continues along Springfield Road as segregated pedestrian and bike paths on the nature strip nearly to Middleborough Road where the trail ends.
Review:
The walk from Elgar Road to Station Street is very pleasant with a well formed concrete path bordered by grassy areas and lots of trees. The section from Station Street along Springfield Road is not very inspiring but does have separate paths for cyclists and pedestrians.
The walk passes by two playgrounds; there is one playground just before Station Street where there is a huge grassy area with pine trees and another playground just before Dorking Road.
Near Dorking Road there are a number of wooden sculptures.
At regular intervals along the route there are bench seats to rest on.
If you return from Elgar Street to Middleborough Road, the total distance is 4.8km.
Access for Dogs:
Between Elgar Road and Woodhouse Grove it is an off-leash area for dogs.
