Buchan - Basin Creek Falls

Buchan - Basin Creek Falls

A hidden gem for the adventurous - spectacular falls on the side of the Snowy River. However, the falls may be dry or running slowly if there has not been recent rain.

The trail head to the falls occurs before the end of the road and is in a small clearing with room to park a couple of cars and a picnic table to the right in trees. The track to the bottom of the falls is narrow and steep and not recommended for young children or the elderly. It takes about one hour there and back. The trail is steep in places with slippery areas and no cliff barriers. The trail will take you to the edge of the Snowy River Gorge (great views) and will then take a sharp left turn and commence the descent to the Snowy near the bottom of Basin Creek Falls. Exercise care on this trail. If it is raining, the initial part of the trail over rocks may be impassable.

The water flows down the rock face and it is possible to stand underneath the water. There are good views of the falls (and the river gorge) from the trail at river level.

The gravel road to the falls is very narrow with steep cliffs and it can be a scary situation when you have to get close to the edge when there is an on-coming car. There is minimal car parking, no toilets and limited tables (one at the top and two near the bottom).
