Bendigo - The Prospectors Depot
Home to some of the largest gold nuggets in the world, Victoria's Golden Triangle can boast that six out of the top seven largest nuggets in Australia were discovered there. One of the richest goldfields in the world Bendigo produced 720,000 kg of the precious metal between 1851 until 1954 when commercial mining ceased.
We all love the allure of gold, now as then the modern day prospector continues the search. New technology sees metal detectors searching for that elusive nugget, while sluices and pans are still being used as they were one hundred and seventy years ago.
We run Golden Triangle tours. Our first package is the Half Day Tour. These tours are as the name suggests half day tours, that combine an hours basic tuition on subjects like geology and the equipment you will be using, followed by three hours in the field detecting. These tours are run on private property and you will have plenty of one on one time as we limit numbers to just four customers, a staff to student ratio of 2:1 is always applied. Morning tea is provided.
The second package is the Full Day Tour. These tours provide two hours training on subjects like geology and the equipment you will be using, followed by five hours prospecting in the field as well as morning and afternoon tea and a lunchtime meal. The package is limited to between two to four customers per tour per day so you really do experience totally intense tuition. We know that this will really whet your appetite to enjoy a full day in the great Victorian goldfields. A staff to student ratio of 2:1 is always applied.
