Lake Weeroona Playground, Midland Highway, Bendigo
The fully fenced playground is located beside Lake Weeroona on the Midland Highway which means that it is a convenient stopping off place for people passing through Bendigo.
The highlight is a huge cylindrical tower with two tunnel slides. The slide at the first level can be reached either by a long ramp or a tunnel ladder. Inside the base of the tower are some games panels (Rainmaker, Tic-Tac-Toe, Mini Maze Ball and Shapes) and hanging disks.
Around the ramp is a rope ladder, swings, seesaw, thick rope see-saw, log forest which has some lovely carvings on some poles and metal possum sculpture.
The first level of the tower has percussion pipes with a clanger, speak and listen system and some powerful binoculars to look at things on the lake.
Steps lead up to the second level and the biggest slide where there is another set of binoculars.
On the lake side of the playground area is a medium sized pyramid rope climbing frame, lots of log and stump steppers, galah sculpture and waterplay area under a shade sail. This area is delightful. You press a button on a pole and sprays from a rock fill up a pool. Open the sluice gate and water flows down channels past creatures such as turtles, duck with ducklings, snail sitting on a rock and a frog.
The far end of the playground has a spinning disk, in-ground trampoline, two more swings and a standard play structure with wave slide, tunnel, various ladders, walkway and shop front.
There is a water tap inside the fenced area and outside is a huge shelter with four large tables and barbecues and unshaded tables. Nearby are toilets and when we were there, 'The Coffee Man at Lake Weerona' coffee van was strategically positioned near the playground. Further along there is another shelter with two large tables and barbecues near the car park.
