Bendigo - North Deborah Quartz Gold Mine

The North Deborah Quartz Gold Mine consists of a steel poppet head (a rare type of construction), sets of concrete engine beds, an intact brick chimney stack and remnants of flues and boiler setting.

These are relics of quartz mining carried on at the site between 1937 and the mid 1950s. This mine was the 'flagship' of the Bendigo goldfield in the late 1940s and the North Deborah was the last mine to operate on the Bendigo Goldfield in the 20th century.

As well as being a significant producer of Victoria's nineteenth century wealth, quartz mining, with its intensive reliance on machinery, played an important role in the development of Victorian manufacturing industry.

There is no entry to the site but there are good views from beside Eve Street.
