Bendigo - Golden Square Bowling & Croquet Club
Golden Square Bowling and Croquet Club proudly stands as a bastion of tradition and excellence, with a storied history spanning over a century. In 2022, we joyously celebrated our centenary, marking a remarkable journey of dedication and sportsmanship. The club has a grass bowls green and grass croquet green.
Our legacy is rich, dating back to the inaugural crowning of our first Club Champion, Fred Courtis, in the season of 1925/26. Notably, the annals of our club history also feature luminaries like AFL Brownlow Medalist and Geelong football legend, Edward 'Carji' Greeves, who clinched the singles championship title twice in the seasons of 1940/41 and 1941/42. Throughout the years, illustrious names such as Frank Johns (with an astonishing 9 singles championships), Tom Barri (with 7), and Bob Campbell (with 5) have graced our greens.
Golden Square's prowess extends beyond individual accolades, as we've proudly secured numerous Association pennants.
At Golden Square, the Bulldog spirit continues to thrive! Our vibrant community boasts an array of opportunities, from pennant and social bowls to carpet bowls and croquet. With active members (including a growing junior contingent) approaching 200, our club's future shines brighter than ever.
Beyond the greens, we invite you to experience our renowned hospitality at our licensed venue. Whether it's a casual game of barefoot bowls or hosting special functions, our doors are open wide to welcome you.
