Bendigo - Dai Gum San Chinese Precinct
The new Dai Gum San Chinese precinct links the Golden Dragon Museum with the Yi Yuan Gardens and Guan Yin Temple. The precinct spans the historic Bendigo creek and glitters with golden pavers and colourful Chinese symbolism.
At the Temple there is a Pomelo tree which are an important symbol in Chinese culture. To the Bendigo Chinese this is a 'tree of life', and every Easter the leaves are fed to the dragons to give them strength to parade through the streets and provide good fortune for all the people of the region. Please don't pick from the tree!
The Yi Yuan (Garden of Joy) is a place of peace and beauty. Based on the Imperial Palace in Beijing, the architecture and construction of the gardens is authentic in every way. The gardens also feature a Buddhist Temple, the Guan Yin Miao (temple of The Goddess of Mercy).
The Dai Gum San's main feature - a giant, five metre lotus flower provides seating for visitors and also doubles as a step between the upper and lower plazas.
Opening Hours:
Guan Yin Temple: Tuesday - Sunday, 9.30am - 5.00pm. Open every day including Mondays during Victorian school holidays.
