Baluk Willam Flora Reserve (Belgrave South)
Baluk Willam Flora Reserve, south-west of the Dandenong Ranges, is particularly significant for its flora and is a sanctuary for over a third of Victoria's orchid species.
Facilities are limited, there are no BBQ, picnic tables or toilets.
Walking trails enable visitors to enjoy activities such as bird watching and orchid viewing. Many of the orchid species are best seen in Spring.
Review:
This is a location where there are no facilities such as parking area or BBQs. We found the best place to park was near the intersection of Courtneys Road and Denham Road.
Follow the dirt tracks through the bushland and try and spot the many orchids and wildflowers during the season. We went at the start of October and there was quite a good range of beautiful flowers in bloom. The best place is the east side of Courtneys Road which has more defined paths through the bush which makes it easier to spot the flowers.
The best hint to make the walk more enjoyable for the kids is to get them to bring along a camera and take photos of the flowers.
