Balnarring Beach
Balnarring is a small beach settlement located at the end of Balnarring Road. The road ends at the main Balnarring Beach (also called Tulum Beach), which has a foreshore reserve with picnic facilities.
There is a small jetty crossing the beach, with boats moored offshore. There is another beach (Balnarring West) to the west.
The main beach is 2.5 km long and faces south, curving around at its western end to the south-east. It extends from the mouth of Merricks Creek, which runs along behind much of the beach, to sandy Balnarring Point, which is fronted by reef flats that separate the two beaches.
The beach receives low wind waves and is relatively narrow, with a moderately steep beach face and deep water off the beach at high tide. At low tide however, the sand and reef flats are exposed.
Swimming - a relatively safe beach protected from westerly winds and waves. Best at mid to high tide when the tidal flats are covered.
The beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 3/10 (Least hazardous)
Access for Dogs:
Dogs are prohibited from the beach between 9am and 7pm throughout the Daylight Saving period. Outside of these times, dogs must be on leash at all times.
Review:
Near the car parking area there are toilets, bins, unshaded tables, water tap and shelter with BBQ and tables.
There is a short path from the car park to the beach which had a lot of seaweed when we visited. To the west is a point with the remains of wooden erosion barriers set in a rocky area. The beach curves around in a big arc in front of the Westernport Yacht Club where there are a couple of unshaded picnic tables.
