Atherstone Regional Play Space, Bridge Road, Melton South
This is a playground which grows on you as you explore it. Initially it looked a bit stark with a big metal bridge running along one side. Then I noticed all the climbing opportunities with climbing walls next to the bridge and a huge expanse of monkey bars underneath the bridge. Check out the length of the arms of your kids. If they have more chimpanzee gene in them than the normal human then they will love this climbing area.
The other major feature is a series of sandpits with metal slides leading down into them which is combined with a large water feature. A hand pump at the top of the hill starts a cascade of water over rocks and eventually leads into a big concrete stream lined with rocks. There is also a wooden table with two taps which has wooden channels leading into the concrete stream. Unfortunately neither the pump nor the taps were working when we visited.
Additional play equipment includes three in-ground trampolines, large stand-up carousel, huge birds nest swing (the only bird that could make a nest that big is a crane), four standard swings including one with a harness, flying fox with disk seat and a lovely balance area with stepping logs. Keep an eye open for the "'Integrated Art Spider Cubbies"!
There are two shelters with tables, unshaded tables and seats, BBQs, water tap and toilets. The playground is fenced.
